Method 1: Manual Extraction (Not Ideal for Bulk)

Steps:

  1. Open Microsoft Outlook

  2. Go to File → Open → Outlook Data File (.pst)

  3. Open the email folder

  4. Open emails one by one

  5. Right-click attachments → Save All Attachments

Limitations:

  • Extremely time-consuming ⏳

  • No bulk filters (date, type, sender)

  • High chance of missing attachments

  • Not suitable for large PST files

➡️ Works only for very small volumes

Method 2: Bulk Extraction Using a Professional Tool (Recommended)

For large PST files and tight deadlines, use a dedicated extractor like Monocomsoft's Outlook Email Extractor / PST Attachment Extractor.

Steps to Extract Bulk Attachments:

  1. Launch the Outlook PST Extractor tool

  2. Add single or multiple PST files

  3. Select "Extract Attachments” option

  4. Apply filters (optional):

    • Date range

    • Attachment type (PDF, DOCX, images, etc.)

    • Sender/recipient

  5. Choose destination folder

  6. Click Start Extraction

✔ All attachments are saved in bulk
✔ Original folder structure maintained
✔ No Outlook dependency (for many tools)

Why Use a Tool for PST Attachment Extraction?

  • Saves hours of manual work

  • Extracts thousands of attachments at once

  • Maintains email metadata & accuracy

  • Ideal for backup, eDiscovery, legal & compliance needs

When deadlines are real, manual extraction isn't an option.
